Rob Hersov Applauds Trump’s First 100 Days
Urges U.S. to Support Western Cape Over South Africa
Rob Hersov appeared on BizNewsTV to discuss several pressing issues, focusing primarily
on his strong support for President Donald Trump’s administration, critiques of South Africa’s
current political landscape, and updates on his media ventures. Hersov praised Trump’s
performance during his first 100 days in office, stating it marked a “hugely impressive”
turnaround. He highlighted major achievements, including securing the U.S. southern border,
now allegedly 90% closed, einvigorating the energy sector through reopening coal fields and
expanding fracking, and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies across the country. According to Hersov, these
actions signal a “counterrevolution” that has restored both order and optimism in America.
On the economic front, Hersov noted that the stock market, while initially volatile, had rebounded. He emphasized that Trump’s
threat of across-the-board tariffs was effective, as seventy countries, including major economies like the UK, Italy, and Japan,
had initiated trade talks with the United States. These efforts, Hersov asserted, demonstrate a serious and proportionate
approach to strengthening American trade relationships.
Turning to South Africa, Hersov criticized the ruling ANC government, labeling it a "racist socialist ineptocracy." He argued
that until South Africa repeals its policy of expropriation without compensation (EWC), drops its case against Israel at the
International Court of Justice (ICJ), and eliminates Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) policies, the U.S. should not engage in
any diplomatic or trade discussions. While he expressed personal respect for Ambassador Jonas, he insisted that past
comments critical of Trump required a formal apology. Hersov called for the U.S. ambassador to be moved from Pretoria to Cape
Town and urged the United States to conduct all future relations through the Western Cape, which is governed by the Democratic
Alliance and, according to him, does not support the controversial national policies.
He proposed the elimination of tariffs on Western Cape exports and suggested American investments in Cape Town’s port
infrastructure and Simon's Town, positioning the region as a separate economic and diplomatic partner. “Punish the bad guys,
embolden the good guys,” Hersov said, framing his strategy as a practical alternative to full Western Cape independence.
In addition to his political commentary, Hersov introduced his new media venture, *The Truth Report, created in collaboration
with several well-known South African podcasters including Gareth Cliff and Nick French. He stated that the podcast medium
offers a powerful platform for in-depth discussions and alternative viewpoints, much like how Donald Trump utilized podcasting
over traditional media in the United States. Funded as an ideological investment, the platform seeks to unite and amplify center-
right voices across South Africa.
Reflecting on legacies, Hersov downplayed personal ambition, saying that as a Stoic, he believes in doing what’s right each day
without expecting recognition. However, he acknowledged the impact of his outspoken activism, noting that more South Africans
are now speaking out against corruption and misgovernance. He reiterated his mission to challenge the status quo until tangible
change is evident in elections and governance.
Hersov also discussed the late Errol Kruger’s contributions to South African banking stability, praising him as an unsung hero
who helped the country navigate the global financial crisis. He expressed disappointment in organized business for failing to
confront government corruption, describing them as captured and risk-averse, preferring to let others take the heat.
Lastly, it was announced that Rob Hersov will deliver the closing address at the BizNews Investment Conference in September
2025. He accepted the invitation with gratitude and indicated he hopes to see positive shifts in South Africa’s investment climate
by that time.
